Update on Freedom Leisure
Freedom Leisure has made the difficult decision to keep some of its facilities, including the Village Health Club and the Oxted Leisure Centre pool, closed, following the financial impact of the current pandemic.
We are in discussions with Freedom Leisure, to carefully consider if we can offer any help and if this would be financially viable for the Council.
COVID-19 has left most councils in financial difficulties as income from things like business rates and car parking has significantly declined and costs of supporting vulnerable residents has increased. While leisure services provide a vital function for residents, they are not one of our statutory services we must provide. We have to balance how we manage our budget, while prioritising the essential services we need to deliver by law.
