Caterham masterplan

The Caterham Masterplan aims to deliver a new vision for Caterham Valley and Caterham on the Hill and to make Caterham more attractive for people to shop and spend their leisure time in. The masterplan will also encourage new businesses, boost the economy and create more local jobs.

A public consultation has just finished and all comments received will be taken into account in preparing a detailed masterplan which will be consulted on again during the summer.

Key aims

To create a strong heart to Caterham by including both Caterham Valley and Caterham on the Hill in planned changes, the transformation options include:

  • A major redesign of the Church Walk Mall shopping centre
  • Improvement to the Waitrose and Quadrant House area
  • Greater variety of shops
  • A lively evening environment and daytime cafe culture
  • Better public and street spaces
  • Enhancements to the Raglan Precinct, Townend Car Park and the High Street.

How the Caterham Masterplan was created

We have invested £150,000 in the Caterham Masterplan project. We are working closely with the community, including the CR3 Forum and local businesses, landowners, other key stakeholders and the Parish Council to develop it. Extensive assessments have been carried out including parking surveys, transport and property analysis.

The new Masterplan also builds on earlier public consultation work, including the Town Centre Design Statement and CR3 Neighbourhood Plan.

Other transformation work

The masterplan team will work closely with the newly created Caterham Business Improvement District, which is aiming to deliver £500,000 of improvements over the next five years.

The Council is also trying to buy the former Rose & Young site in the town, using a Compulsory Purchase Order.

Delivering the Caterham Masterplan

The masterplan project is being delivered by planning and regeneration specialists, Nexus Planning, working with the Caterham Town Working Group. Property and viability analysts, Colliers International and architects, Broadway Malyan have also been involved.
