Register of electors

The Council Offices are open by appointment only. Please contact us to book an appointment to view the electoral register.

You can only vote in elections if your name appears on the register of electors. To register visit Each individual in a household must be registered to vote individually.

We produce two versions of the register:

  • The full register of electors – listing the names and addresses of all registered to vote in public elections. This register is used for electoral purposes – for example, making sure only eligible people can vote – and also for some other purposes, set out by law.
  • The open register of electors - an edited register excluding the names of all those who have specifically told us they do not want their names passing on. This list can be sold to anyone for any purpose, including marketing.

Find out more about the difference between the two lists and the purposes that each are used for on our Electoral Register and the Open Register.

Opting out of the open register

If your name is on the open register and you want it removed please contact us.

If you want your name permanently to be excluded from the open register you can ask our Electoral Registration Officer to do so by completing and returning the Notice under Data Protection Act 1998 opt out form.

If you have not yet registered, you can opt out of appearing on the open register during the registration process.
