Residents move into five new council homes in Dormansland
Residents on our council housing register have moved into five new council homes at Hollow Lane in Dormansland, delivered through the Council’s housebuilding programme to provide high quality, energy efficient council homes for local people.
The development includes four two-bedroom flats and a one-bedroom bungalow. The new homes are designed to be accessible and can be adapted to meet residents’ changing needs.
The homes feature air source heat pumps, solar panels and heat recovery ventilation systems to help reduce energy costs and cut carbon emissions. These features are included in all new council homes delivered through the programme.
The homes have been allocated to residents on the Council’s housing register in line with local housing policies and are let at Affordable Rent levels, set at 70% of open market rent.
Councillor Jeremy Pursehouse, Chairman of Housing Committee, said: “The completion of these homes is another milestone in our housebuilding programme. They will provide safe, high quality and energy efficient homes for residents and help meet the growing demand for affordable housing in the district.”
Christine, who moved into the bungalow from a housing association property, said: “The bungalow is amazing and has been so thoughtfully designed. I needed somewhere without stairs as I can no longer manage them and after waiting nine years, it’s a dream come true. I’m absolutely delighted.”
Holly, who moved into one of the two-bedroom flats, said: “Having our own bedrooms, a garden and more space has made such a difference to us. We also have parking and I no longer have to walk down an alleyway with my son at night to get home. It’s genuinely life changing.”
The homes form part of the Council’s wider housebuilding programme. Further developments at Pelham House in Caterham, the former Sea Cadets site in Caterham, and Featherstone in Blindley Heath are currently being built and will provide 42 new homes.
