Council invests £500,000 in playing pitch upgrades
Tandridge District Council is investing £500,000 to improve five playing pitches in the district.
The upgrades will include a range of improvements tailored to each site, including drainage, landscaping and maintenance measures to tackle flooding caused by clay ground conditions. As a result, the pitches will be available for use more often throughout the year.
The Council is working in partnership with Surrey Football Association and the Football Foundation’s Grass Pitch Maintenance Fund to deliver the project. An assessment of 19 pitches across the district identified the sites where investment would have the greatest impact on pitch quality, playability and long term use.
The improvements will take place between September 2026 and March 2027. To allow the works to be completed safely and effectively, pitches will be temporarily closed. Details of closures will be confirmed in advance.
The playing pitches being refurbished are:
- Queens Park, Caterham.
- Talbot Road, Lingfield.
- Mid Street, South Nutfield.
- Bushey Croft, St Clair Close, Oxted.
- Hamsey Green, Verdayne Gardens, Warlingham.
Once completed, the improvements will help reduce match cancellations, extend the playing season and provide better quality facilities for local sports clubs and residents.
Pedestrian access around the edges of the fields will remain open while the work is underway. However, residents are asked to stay off the playing surfaces to ensure the new pitches can establish properly and provide long-lasting benefits for future users.
