Are there laws governing the height/distance of a hedge between properties? In particular Leylandii hedges?

Legislation was introduced in 2005 that gives Local Authorities the power to take action. However neighbours are required to try to resolve the matter first and then if necessary seek mediation before formally asking the Council to intervene. For more information look at the High hedges page.
