Why don't your refuse and recycling staff clear snow, when they can't collect?

Biffa Waste Services is a private sector contractor working for Tandridge District Council. We have a contract with them to collect refuse and recycling, but not to clear snow or carry out gritting.

Any attempt to extend the contract to snow clearance, even if the contractor were prepared to do it, would add to costs.

Some councils have an in-house service which gives them more flexibility. When we set up the current refuse and recycling contract we considered an in-house service, but were unable to match the cost effectiveness of the Biffa contract.
