Hand washing

Hand washing

Each year the Council receives notifications of food borne and viral illness which could be due to poor hand hygiene.

Contaminated hands and poor hand hygiene can cause the spread of illnesses. If you prepare or handle food the following guidance about how to wash your hands properly can reduce the risk of contaminating food. You must also wash your hands if you come into contact with animals or their faeces.

Advice on hand washing

The guidance is also useful to local businesses who may wish to show their food handlers how they should clean their hands.

We have also produced this short movie on hand washing
