Key objectives 2008/2009


Each year the administration running the Council presents a set of broad key objectives to the Resources Committee. These are considered and endorsed. Officers then work to achieve them through detailed actions.

The overall objective is to provide quality services at a reasonable price, while concentrating Council Tax expenditure on providing front-line services.

Council Key Objectives 2008/2009

Key Objectives/priorities
1. Provide quality services at reasonable prices and concentrate Council Tax expenditure on providing and supporting front-line services. Continue to maximise resources available to the district through partnership opportunities, government grants and other funding streams.

2. Ensure that Tandridge is a focused, well-managed and responsive Council with high performance attainment against locally agreed Key Performance Indicators and effective communication and consultation with residents and businesses.

To be achieved through
A. Work with the Local Strategic Partnership to achieve outcomes and targets in the 2006 Community Strategy and encourage and help our partners and other agencies to achieve their targets.

B. Implementing the Human Resources/Organisational Development Strategy in accordance with the Action Plan, with particular emphasis on securing Investor in People re-accreditation in 2009.

C. Extending the weekly recycling service to include the collection of plastics by introducing, subject to available finance, further tranche(s) from September 2008.

D. Progressing in accordance with the Local Development Scheme Core Strategy Development Plan Document (including Affordable Housing) to examination and adoption and continue work to improve planning services.

E. Working towards meeting housing needs in Tandridge by implementing the Council's Housing Strategy 2006-2009 and preparing a new Strategy to run from 2009-2013.

F. Preparing by October 2008 a Parking Strategy in partnership with Surrey County Council to consider on and off-street parking across the District.

G. Encouraging small/medium sized businesses and the rural economy and use the outcome of the Caterham Health Check to move forward on the revitalisation of Caterham Town Centre. Continuing to press the owners of Oxted Gas Holder to come forward with feasible development proposals incorporating its removal.

H. Implementing the East Surrey Improvement Partnership Collaboration Strategy and seeking more partnership working with other authorities.

I. Implementing customer service enhancements to address increased demand for internet and telephony services by October 2008.

J. Preparing for the national introduction in April 2009 of Comprehensive Area Assessment and to ensure a satisfactory audit outcome.

K. Continuing support to Tandridge Leisure Limited to ensure satisfactory delivery of leisure provision.

L. Satisfactory implementation of a concessionary fares scheme in accordance with requirements of the Concessionary Bus Travel Act 2007.
