Household refuse collection

Houshold refuse is collected every week on your collection day. Please ensure that it is visibly available by 6am, and that it is contained in an ordinary dustbin to help prevent littering, no wheelie bins please (see text below for more information).

You may find that the refuse vehicle collects from one side of the road and then the other, this is to minimise the risk to the crew by reducing the amount of times they have to cross the road.

Please also remember to wrap up any sharp objects before placing them in your refuse to prevent injuries to the collectors.

We aim to:

If you would like to check your collection day please click on refuse and recycling collection dates, this will also detail any revised collections following the Easter and Christmas Bank Holidays.

To report a missed collection or other problem please fill in the missed collection form or leave a message on 01883 732958 which is an automated information line available 24 hours a day. To speak to someone during office hours please call 01883 732998 or alternatively call our contractor Biffa Waste Services on 01883 712333.

If you have large household items to dispose of you could make use of our bulky refuse collection service or fridge and freezer collection service, or take it along to one of our bulky rubbish clearance weekend. Alternatively residents can take some items to a Community Recycling Centrewho cater for household refuse.

To help reduce the amount of household waste being sent to landfill you can participate in our greenbox recycling scheme, use our numerous recycling bank sites, or try out some of our useful reducing tips.

Wheelie bins: We strongly recommend residents don't use "Wheelie Bins", as our refuse vehicles do not have the correct type of lifting equipment for small domestic wheelie bins and are liable to damage them. If you choose to use a wheeled bin and it is damaged or destroyed, neither the Council or Biffa will be liable to replace it or compensate for the loss.

The collectors are no longer allowed to empty wheeled bins by hand for health and safety reasons and wheeled bins will only be returned to the edge of your property and not back to the house.
