World leaders agreed Agenda 21 at the Earth Summit in 1992. This is the agenda to achieve sustainable development in the 21st century and sets out what needs to be done internationally, by governments, local communities (Local Agenda 21), businesses and people everywhere.
Sustainable development reaches every aspect of our lives - the economy, the communities in which we live and our natural environment. Agenda 21 is about changing the way we behave now, to safeguard the future for our children and our children's children.
