Environmental Initiatives Grant Scheme

hurst greenEnvironmental Initiatives Grants are given to projects which benefit the environment.

For the current financial year, 2011/12 all available funds have been awarded or committed and no new applications can be processed. It is unlikely that grants will be available in 2012/13 given the current financial constraints, however until the Council has set it budget for the next financial year in January it is not possible to be certain whether grants will be available.

Anyone can apply - parish or village councils, amenity groups and individuals, as long as the project is within the Tandridge. For this reason projects which receive grants should be accessible to the public or clearly visible from public open space, rights of way or roads and add to the public's enjoyment of the area.

The following are examples of the type of project that might be suitable:

  • Tree or hedge planting/hedge laying
  • Spring bulb planting
  • Schemes that benefit wildlife
  • Village or community improvement schemes
  • Restoration of local features such as war memorials
  • Village signs

In some circumstances it may be possible to contribute to the cost of repairs to historic structures.

Environmental Initiatives Grants are discretionary. The amount given depends on the:

  • Total cost of the project.
  • Amount of grant aid requested.
  • Benefits of the project.
  • Number of other projects the Council has to allocate funds to.

In some circumstances the scheme can offer up to 50% of the total costs.

Please complete the Environmental Initiatives Grant Scheme application form if you wish to apply for a grant. Please include supporting information if it is available, for example quotations for the work proposed.
