Building control

What do the building regulations cover?

Building regulations cover the way that the building is constructed such as its structural stability, fire resistance, weather resistance etc.

Planning permission relates to the siting, design, size, height and bulk of the development and its impact on neighbouring properties and the surrounding area. Anyone carrying out building work should seek advice from Development Control and Building Control at the earliest possible stage.

  1. Find out if you need planning and/or building regulation permission
  2. Use an experienced person or company to prepare and submit the necessary applications for you
  3. Employ an experienced builder to carry out the work. (Any work which does not meet the regulations will have to be altered or demolished.)

Tandridge Building Control, like all Local Authority Building Control offices, is a member of the national body for Building Control, LABC.
