New look Tandridge Leisure Centre opens following £1.1 million investment

Tandridge Leisure Centre has officially reopened after an extensive refurbishment. Following the management takeover in May, Freedom Leisure in partnership with Tandridge District Council committed to invest £1.1 million in a significant improvement of the facility in Oxted.

On 3 January Councillor David Cooley, Chairman of Tandridge District Council and his consort and wife Pam, joined Councillor Martin Fisher, Leader of Tandridge District Council, Ivan Horsfall-Turner, Managing Director of Freedom Leisure, local athlete Louise Brownsey, British and World 17-21 Trampoline Champion, Councillors Jackie Wren and Catherine Sayer, ward councillors for Oxted North & Tandridge and Louise Round, Chief Executive of Tandridge District Council, for the opening.

The investment has been used to modernise and refresh the centre. The reception area has been refurbished and made bigger and now has a cafe serving Costa Coffee.

The fitness suite upstairs has also been greatly improved – with the addition of a brand new studio, meaning that the centre now has two studio spaces and can offer more group exercises classes. Finally, the new gym has been extended with a new functional training space, state-of-the-art kit and a free weights area which has tripled in size.

The centre will be holding an open weekend on 12 and 13 January which all residents are invited to attend. There will be free taster classes, gym challenges with prizes and swimming for £1. There will also be entertainment for children and a free bouncy castle and ball pit sessions.

Councillor Martin Fisher, Leader of Tandridge District Council, said: “We are very proud to be part of the transformation of Tandridge Leisure Centre and being able to support it with a £1.1 million investment. As a member of Tandridge Leisure Centre I have watched the progress with great interest and the new gym facilities are fantastic. The membership packages offer people real value for money and easy access to a facility to help everyone achieve a healthier lifestyle and spend leisure time with family.”

Centre Manager, Chris O’Neill, says: “The team and I are over the moon with the new developments and cannot wait to show customers around.  Not only do we now have one of the best fitness facilities in the area, with some of the very best kit, but we also have more stations, more space and more classes – just in time for the New Year when everyone refocuses on their health and fitness goals.

We also have some truly fantastic New Year membership offers to really support local residents to be more active. I’m certain that once people see our centre, they will be as excited about it as we are.”
