Applying for Community Infrastructure Levy funds opens 1 April 2023

On 1 April, a new bidding round for funding through the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) opens. This is a charge local councils set on new developments to help fund infrastructure, facilities and services in the district. This year, the CIL Fund will be able to support over £2 million in infrastructure projects.

Since 2014, £6 million has been allocated to 13 organisations, you can see which projects have been awarded funding on our spending CIL webpage.

Our four stage approach ensures the allocations of funds is as transparent and objective as possible. The four stages are:

  • Submit an expression of interest: the form will be available on 1 April. It must be submitted by midnight on Friday 12 May.
  • Submit a full application: if your project meets the criteria set out in stage one, you will be invited to submit an application within six weeks.
  • Attend a working group: applications which meet our criteria will be invited to present their bids to a CIL Working Group in the autumn.
  • Decision by Planning Policy Committee: if the committee agrees to award CIL funding, we will contact the applicant to arrange a contract for the payment of funds.
