Temporary changes to Covid-19 restrictions from 30 November

Following the recent emergence of a new Covid-19 variant, known as Omicron, the government has announced some temporary changes to Covid-19 restrictions.

The following restrictions will be in place from 30 November:

  • Face coverings will be compulsory in shops and on public transport.
  • Contacts of suspected Omicron cases will be required to self-isolate for 10 days, regardless of their vaccination status. They will be contacted by NHS Test and Trace.
  • From 4am on 30 November, any international travellers entering the UK will need to self-isolate and take a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival. They will need to continue self-isolating until they receive a negative test result. This does not apply to people travelling within the UK.
  • Pupils, staff and visitors at secondary schools are strongly advised to wear face coverings in communal areas.

These temporary measures will be reviewed on 17 December.

More information on the changes is available on gov.uk.
