Recycling and waste truck fire caused by helium canister

Recycling and waste truck fire caused by helium canister

Don’t put gas canisters and helium tanks in your recycling or rubbish bins because they can explode and cause a fire inside the vehicle. This also creates a risk to the safety of our collection crew.

Earlier this week one of the recycling trucks caught fire, which meant the fire service had to be called out and collections delayed.

To dispose of the container, make sure it is completely empty and contact the shop or supplier you bought it from to find out if they will take it back or tell you how to dispose of it.

If they don’t want them back, please store them at home until the community recycling centres (CRC) in Caterham and Warlingham have reopened.

Earlswood CRC in Redhill has reopened, but is only accepting garden waste and black bagged rubbish.
