Organisers cancel 2020 Specsavers Surrey Youth Games
The Specsavers Surrey Youth Games normally sees thousands of beginners aged 6-16 come together at Surrey Sports Park in early summer to use the new skills that they’ve learnt. It had been due to take place on the weekend of 13/14 June.
In the weeks before the Games, local boroughs and districts provide free local training for young people who are new to the sport or activity they’ve chosen. In most cases, this training has also been suspended – parents should check the e-mail addresses they provided when they registered their child.
Nic Fraser, Events Lead at Games’ organisers Active Surrey says: “In the 23 year history of the Games we don’t believe we’ve ever needed to cancel a single sport let alone the whole event, but the current circumstances are exceptional.
“Young people from across the county were due to represent their local borough or district over the June weekend, but we can promise everyone that we’ll be back, bigger and better next year.
“In the meantime, families should still stay active; if you’re able to leave the house, nothing will help your mood more than getting out in the fresh air, whether that’s for a walk over the Surrey Hills or going for a family bike ride. And if you’re housebound, there are still some things we can all do, whatever our age to keep fit and active. Check www.activesurrey.com for ideas.”
