Record numbers to be offered a free NHS flu jab this winter
Anyone at risk of suffering from or spreading flu are urged to ensure they get their free NHS flu vaccination this winter.
Flu can be serious and even deadly for older adults, very young children and people with underlying health conditions. Flu kills an average of 8,000 people every year. The vaccine is the best defence we have against what can be a serious illness.
If you’re eligible, you can get your flu vaccination from your general practice or pharmacy to help protect yourself this winter.
Aside from having your flu vaccine, the best way to prevent the spread of flu is to practice good hand hygiene. Catch coughs and sneezes in a tissue, throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
If you think you have flu, stay home and rest until you feel better. Call NHS 111 if you have an underlying health condition or feel very unwell. For more information visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/flu/
