Emergency council service

The Council's out of hours service deals with emergency calls when the council offices are closed.

Calls received on 01883 722000, between 5.30pm and 8.30am Monday to Friday and at weekends from 5pm on Friday to 8.30am the following Monday, are automatically put through to a professional answering service, which pages problems to a Duty Officer.

An emergency is defined as events or incidents involving significant risk to life, limb or property or a perceived danger to the public. This covers council housing emergencies, council buildings and assets, flooding, dangerous structures including unsafe buildings due to weather, fire or accident damage in imminent danger of collapse onto a public place and any civil emergency.

The service also deals with noise disturbances caused by misfiring car or burglar alarms and serious noise nuisances affecting the occupants of several dwellings.

Callers must give their name, address and a contact telephone number, as anonymous callers will not be responded to. This helps the duty officer get more information about the incident and to ensure it is a genuine call.

The service does not connect callers to officers, accept credit or debit card payments, send out planning applications or deal with general enquiries.
