The Council does not have a clinical waste collection service. We will only collect human hygiene waste generated in the home such as nappies, incontinence pads and sanitary products. These are not considered to be clinical waste and can go in your general household waste, as long as they are in small quantities, adequately wrapped and free of excess liquid.
Our service assumes you are generally healthy. If you are undergoing medical treatment this type of waste may present a risk and you should consult your GP before putting these out for collection with general waste.
Items such as soiled surgical swabs, soiled surgical dressings, pharmaceutical products and syringe needles are classed as clinical waste, and must not be disposed of in your bin. To dispose of these you will need to make arrangements with your GP, District Nurse or Surrey Primary Care Trust, if you have not already done so. Companies providing this service can also be found in the yellow pages
(This link will open in a new window).
Unused or out of date medicines should be returned to your pharmacy where they will make arrangements for their safe disposal. Waste medicines should not be flushed down the toilet or put in a household bin.
