Bletchingley is a large village of medieval origin on the A25 between Redhill and Godstone. Its historic centre is a Conservation Area containing many attractive listed buildings.
The High Street owes its wide form to the market square which once existed there. Bletchingley had a castle, the remains of which lie on private land to the south east of the village and was also a "Rotten Borough" (a handful of electors returning an MP to Parliament) until the Reform Act of 1832.
Today, Bletchingley is well known for its specialist and antique shops and its many pubs. There is also a post office, newsagents and bakery. The Adult Education Centre, on the western side of the village, serves the population of the surrounding villages.
