Voted the Best Talking Newspaper & Magazine tapes in the UK 1997
Since 1981 the Tandridge Lions Talking Newspaper has been dedicated to producing and delivering the local news each week free of charge for blind and partially-sighted people in the Tandridge area.
Currently our talking newspapers and magazines are enjoyed by 120 visually-impaired people in a spoken format on a USB memory stick delivered free to their own homes.
The news is edited from the local editions of the Caterham Mirror, the Surrey Mirror (Tandridge Edition), the East Grinstead Observer & Courier and the County Border News. The Council's magazine - the Tandridge Magazine - is also produced in spoken format by the Talking Newspaper. Each edition is digitally produced and copied in our studio in the Soper Hall in Caterham.
The Tandridge Lions Talking Newspaper is totally free to the visually impaired as all help is voluntary. Additionally should a listener not own a memory stick player, one can be loaned free of charge or provided at cost for them to own.
If you, or someone you know, would like to receive our Talking Newspaper or help with its production please contact Barbara Chappell on 01342 834223 or Tony Skilbeck on 01883 335945 or e-mail us at Talking newspaper.
If you would like to join our 250 Club which provides the funding for the talking newspaper (the equivalent of £1 per month offers the opportunity of cash prizes) please contact Barbara Skilbeck on 01883 335945.
