Landlord and Tenant Relations

Most private tenancies proceed without difficulties. The Private Sector Housing Team can offer advice to both tenants and landlords and in certain cases, intervene in disputes.

On occasions where landlords are behaving unlawfully, the Council can use its enforcement powers including possible legal action.

You can find a wide range of advice on solving tenacy related disputes on the Gov.ukThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window) website.

If you are a housing association tenant, please read the putting things right leaflet for more information.

Other sources of help and advice include ShelterThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window), the Citizens Advice Bureau, and the National Landlords AssociationThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window).
If you are a tenant and threatened with losing your home, you can contact our Housing Advice Team.
