Why did we change the recycling and waste service in October 2012?

We have changed the service to:

  • Make recycling easier for residents.
  • Widen the type of materials that can be recycled.
  • Meet residents' desire for increased recycling.
  • Increase the recycling rate.
  • Reduce waste being sent to landfill and so reduce landfill tax.
  • Reduce the amount of food waste sent to landfill by introducing a weekly food waste collection.

This will save almost £900,000 a year, which will help fill the gap left by the reduced government grant the council receives and ease the pressure on other services
