Cleaning major roads in the district

Street cleaning of main roads, such as dual carriageways, can only be done with traffic management arrangements in place. This is for safety reasons to protect those cleaning and is required by law.

A22 dual carriageway

We only clean the A22 dual carriageway section from the A25 to Wapses Lodge Roundabout when Surrey County Council has put traffic management arrangements in place. It does this when it cuts the grass. This is normally only done during the grass growing season. We cannot clean the road at other times or on request.

M25 Junction 6 slip roads

Highways England is responsible for cleaning the motorway network. Connect Plus carried out the work on its behalf. This involves closing the slip roads for the M25 Junction 6 at night. Connect Plus regularly inspects the motorway network for litter and will organise road cleaning depending on the amount of litter and when the road closure can be arranged.

This is in addition to their scheduled cleans, which are shown in the table below:

Please take your litter home

Road cleaning causes disruption for motorists and danger to the road cleaners  – please help by taking your litter home with you.

How do I report a problem with a litter or dog bin?

If you want to report a problem with a litter or dog bin or would like to make a request for an additional litter or dog bin please fill in the report a problem form or call Street Cleaning on 01883 732751.

How often are dog & litter bins emptied?

Dog and litter bins are emptied one to three times a week depending on their location and usage.

What happens when you find a dead domestic animal in the road?

If someone reports a dead domestic animal in the road then our street sweeping department will go along to collect it and they will scan the animal for a micro chip. If the animal has a micro chip it will give a reference number which they can use to find the owners contact details and then they will sadly pass on the news.

Our street sweeping department keep a list of missing pets locally and will contact the owners if they find them. They will also help anyone that does call asking about their animal in case it hasn't been micro chipped and they may have unfortunately already found it.
