Taxi licensing

All applicants

• Need to apply for a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check as the first part of the application process.
• Must undergo a multiple choice test to prove they have general knowledge of the Tandridge District area. The test also includes highway code signs and procedures set down by Tandridge District Council.
• Driving Vehicle License Authority checks will be carried out.
• Passport checks maybe carried out.
• Must pass a Driving Standards Agency (DSA) driving test.
• Medicals must be carried out by your own GP.

Hackney Carriages

• When all relevant forms and checks are satisfactorily completed a payment is given and the vehicle is tested at Warren Lane Depot in the motor vehicle workshop. The vehicle must have the appropriate insurance for the licence and a current MOT if the vehicle is over one year old, the applicant must provide sufficient proof of ownership.
• The taxi license plates, which are the property of Tandridge District Council are fixed to the rear and to the front windscreen.
• The meter and roof light are supplied by the owner of the vehicle and must be in place before the vehicle is tested.
• Hackney Carriage Vehicles can be hailed in the street, and can use a taxi rank within the area.

Private Hire

• When all relevant forms and checks are satisfactorily completed a payment is given and the vehicle is tested at Warren Lane Depot in the motor vehicle workshop. • Private Hire Vehicles can not be hailed or use a taxi rank. All work is pre-bookable via the operator.

• Station Approach in Warlingham
• Station Road in Caterham
• Harestone Valley Road in Caterham

For your safety, always check the driver is wearing a badge, the vehicle has a licence plate and the meter is working.
