Hackney Carriages

The vehicle must have appropriate insurance for the licence and if the vehicle is over one year old it must have a current MOT.  The applicant must provide sufficient proof of ownership. Our Licensing Office will check all this documentation before the vehicle inspection.

When the forms and checks have been satisfactorily completed and a fee paid, we will test the vehicle at our Warren Lane Depot motor vehicle workshop. The meter and roof lights, supplied by the owner, must be in place before the vehicle is tested.

The taxi license plates, which remain the property of Tandridge District Council, must be fixed to the rear and to the front windscreen. The rear plate is fitted by our motor vehicle workshop once a vehicle has passed the inspection. The front plate goes into the wallet displayed on the windscreen.
