Apprentices discount

We do not include apprentices when we calculate council tax payments.

If there is only one person left after the apprentice is disregarded, then the person responsible for council tax can have a discount.

The apprentice must be:

1. Employed for the purpose of learning a trade, business, profession, employment or vocation.
2. Undertaking a training programme for that purpose, which will lead to an NVQ.
3. Employed at a salary or in receipt of an allowance or both, which are, in total substantially less than the salary they would get if they had achieved the qualification and no more than £195 (gross) per week.

If you think you may qualify for a discount you should complete a discount application form and send the evidence required for a discount to be considered. Please send either:

• A copy of the Indentures of Apprenticeship.
• A copy of a signed agreement between the apprentice and employer showing the terms of the apprenticeship.

and a copy of the last five weeks or two months wage slips.

A statement or letter from the employer will not be sufficient.
