Helping residents prepare for digital switchover

Next April analogue television will be switched off across the London TV region, which includes the Tandridge area. We are one of the last areas to change.

If you don’t already have digital TV and don’t do anything, you won’t be able to watch television after the switchover. But you do not have to rush off and buy a new TV, aerial or install a satellite dish.  Virtually any TV, including black and white ones and those without Scart sockets, can be converted in a number of ways.

This is the biggest change to television since the introduction of colour and we have been working hard to make sure our residents are prepared.

We have supplemented the national advertisements, leaflets and other public information by:

  • Making sure members of the day centres and those living in sheltered schemes are aware of the change and prepared.
  • Changing all aerials in council properties.
  • Providing information to residents and business in the Tandridge Magazine and to council tenants in the Tenant’s Talking newsletter, as well as on our website www.tandridge.gov.uk.
  • Sending information to councillors, parish councils and the Tandridge Voluntary Service Council for use on websites and in newsletters.

We have also been advising older and disabled residents to take advantage of the BBC’s Switchover Help Scheme.

People aged 75 or over, living in a care home for six months or more, registered blind or partially sighted, or on certain disability benefits will receive an offer of equipment to convert one TV set to digital, help with its installation and follow-up support.
