Washable nappies

8 million disposable nappies are thrown away every single day in the UK, 3 billion are thrown away every year. Have you considered washable nappies?

What are washable nappies?Baby wearing a brightly coloured stripey washable nappy

Think again if you still think of cloth nappies as being terry squares, safety pins and sweaty plastic pants. Washable nappies, also known as reusable or real nappies, are now made from a range of natural materials such as cotton, hemp and bamboo. Washing them is easy, either at home or by using a nappy laundering service. They are available in a range of modern styles that fit snugly and are easily fastened with poppers, velcro or plastic grips.

Washable nappies are:

  • Better for the environment
  • Reduce waste
  • Save parents money
  • Easy to use
  • Fun and funky

Where can I find out more?

As part of the Surrey Waste Partnership we are working with Go Real to provide a number of services to help you find out about real nappies and decide which ones are right for you. The Surrey Waste Partnership is made up of Surrey County Council and the 11 district and borough councils in the county. It aims to bring all local authorities together to manage Surrey's waste in the most efficient, economic and sustainable way possible.
