Biffa will collect fridges and freezers from private homes for the subsidised rate of £20.47 (the full cost of collection and disposal is over £90). A free service is available only to residents who receive certain means tested benefits. Please call Biffa to arrange a collection or for more information on 01883 712333.
Fridges and freezers have been carefully disposed of for many years to avoid the leak of the ozone depleting gas Freon. Due to further changes in the law, older fridges and freezers must now have their foam insulation carefully removed as well, again to protect the environment. As a result, the cost of disposal has risen significantly and electrical retailers have been unwilling to remove old fridges/freezers when delivering a new one.
Commercial fridges/freezers
The collection of fridges and freezers used in business/industrial/commercial premises is, as with all commercial waste, a chargeable service. It costs £94.27 to collect and dispose of a fridge/freezer. Commercial fridges/freezers do not qualify for the subsidies detailed above.
To arrange collection of a fridge/ freezer from a commercial property, please call Amenity Services on 01883 722000. Once we have received your payment of £94.27 (£78.56 + VAT), your fridge/freezer should be collected within a week.
