Battery recycling and disposal

You can recycle your household and rechargeable batteries commonly found in torches, hearing aids, camcorders, calculators, watches, radios, cameras, and toys at your local community recycling centresThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window) managed by Surrey County Council. These are at the following locations.

  • Bond Road Community Recycling Centre, Warlingham (map)
  • Chaldon Road Community Recycling Centre, Caterham (map)

You can also recycle household and rechargeable batteries at the council offices on Station Road East in Oxted. Available in reception during office hours which are 8:30am to 5pm Monday to Thursday, and 8:30am to 4:30pm Fridays.

We have removed the battery banks at Ellice Road car park in Oxted, Grange Meadow car park in Lingfield, Gun Pit Road car park in Lingfield, Lagham Road sports ground in South Godstone, and Smallfield recreation ground in Smallfield. They were all unfortunately consistently contaminated with general litter.

  • C cells
  • D cells
  • PP3 cells

  • Alkaline
  • Nickel cadmium
  • Nickel metal hydride
  • Lithium Ion
  • Zinc carbon

Car batteries

Car batteries can also be recycled by Surrey County Council. Please take them to your local community recycling centreThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window) and place them in the allocated bay.

Mobile phone batteries

Icon advertising mobile phone recyclingThese can not currently be recycled by Surrey County Council or Tandridge District Council and should not be placed in the dustbin if at all possible.

Try contacting the suppliers of the battery for information on take back schemes or look up whether a charity of your choice is offering a freepost recycling scheme such as Help the AgedThis link will open in a new window (This link will open in a new window).
