Prestigious Awards for Local Building Projects at LABC South East Building Excellence Awards

The 2010 Awards Dinner was held at the Copthorne Effingham Park on 11 June this year and was opened by Chairman of the Council, Cllr Alan Jones who attended with his wife. We were delighted to learn that following on from our success at last year's Awards, two local building projects, nominated by Tandridge Building Control, had won top awards. (Beating off stiff competition from some 40 other authorities in the South East.)

Buxton Building Contractors Limited, based in Caterham, and their architects, the Lee Evans Partnership, won the Best Community/Public Building prize for the Neville Childhood Epilepsy Centre (a medical and research centre) at NCYPE, Lingfield and Millwood Homes won the Best Small Housing Development category. The award scheme was open to architects, designers, builders and home owners and all category winners received a trophy.

The Neville Childhood Epilepsy Centre - Best Community/Public Building

Designed by Lee Evans Partnership the brief was to create a purpose-built centre for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of both NCYPE students and children throughout the UK. The new facility would also provide a base for world-leading research into the condition. The existing 1960s uninspiring, flat roofed buildings on the campus, would form the core of the new centre and the surrounding land would be used for any new build extensions required.

Developed by Buxton Building Contractors Ltd we found their construction team both proactive and conscientious throughout the build. The new building is beautifully designed, being light and vibrant providing a safe, comfortable and friendly atmosphere in the public areas and state of the art technology in the medical areas.

The Manor Houses, Dormans Park - Best Small Housing Development

Millwood Designer Homes demonstrated quality of construction and attention to detail in building these two individual timber framed manor houses at Dormans Park. Using their own in-house architects the houses were designed in the style for which they are renowned, giving a uniquely mature appearance, reflecting the local character. Tandridge's building control surveyor formed an excellent working relationship with Millwood's construction team and their health and safety standards on site were first class as was their swift and efficient handling of any requests from us.

Kavbro Build Limited - Highly Commended

We were very pleased that highly regarded local building contractors, Kavbro Build Ltd, were also highly commended in the Best Partnership category for their excellent working relationship with Tandridge building control.

The Awards aim to give well deserved recognition to companies and individuals within the construction industry who are committed to producing high quality buildings throughout the South East and highlight the importance of Building Control in achieving high standards - acknowledging the role that building regulations play in the creation of high performance buildings.
