Private sector housing

The Private Sector Housing Team is responsible for maintaining the quality and good repair of housing in the private sector and where necessary ensuring improvement of rented accommodation and properties which have fallen into disrepair. This is an important role as the private sector accounts for 90% of available housing, 6% of which is privately rented.

The Council is keen to ensure that properties are energy efficient, warm and safe for the occupants. We can offer loans or arrange finance to assist owners with improvements and where necessary to bring empty homes back into use.

The Council is also responsible for licensing multiple occupied houses to ensure that they have adequate amenities and fire precautions.

Th Private Sector Housing Team also provides disabled adaptations and other assistance for older and vulnerable residents through the Care and Repair service.
