Housing related services for older and vulnerable people

This section provides information on Council initiatives to help older and disabled people to continue to live independently for as long as possible.

These include a Community Alarm Service, Meals on Wheels, Day Centres and assistance with maintaining or adapting homes. Staff responsible for the provision of these services are located within the Enabling, Special Needs and Private Sector team of Housing Services.

The Council is keen to work with specialist Housing Associations and other voluntary organisations to provide housing opportunities for people who require additional support to enable them to live independently. Examples include a scheme in Caterham Hill managed by Independent Opportunities Tandridge (IHOT). As explained within IHOT's information brochure this scheme is designed to help people (aged 18 to 45) with physical and / or mild learning disabilities by providing short term supported housing at the Diana Francis House in Alexander Crescent, The Village. The House is intended to help residents acquire essential life skills to enable them to move on to more permanent accommodation in the future.
